فرنگیس(Persian) Фарангис(Tajik)

Meaning & Origin

Meaning

"Means "dear to all" from Middle Persian fryh meaning "dear" and wisp meaning "all", with the spelling altered perhaps due to the Persian word فرنگ (farang) meaning "European, Frankish". In the 10th-century Persian epic the Shahnameh she is the daughter of the evil king Afrasiab and the wife of the heroic Siavash. She appears briefly as the daughter of Afrasiab in the earlier Zoroastrian text the Bundahishn, where her name is Vispanfrya (with the elements in reverse order)."
